The Folding Guitar

Necessity is the mother of invention and this instrument was inspired by a job that had me commuting by the week to the Texas/Mexican border wherein I desperately needed a guitar that would fit in my suitcase.

It containes a pickup (visible), batteries, a small amplifier, and a 3"X5" speaker behind the carved and silked sound-hole! The hinge between the two halves is a "Soss" hinge that disappears entirely within the wood of the joint when the neck is extended. I was in a classical mood in those days so it has a rather wide fingerboard but it provided some wonderful service on many a lonely motel evening.
