The Bowed Psaltry

The bowed psaltry is strong voiced (thanks to the bow) and can stand out above a group of other instruments. Originally diatonic, modern versions are chromatic for two octaves, usually in the key of D. Notice that the lower row of end-pins are spaced like the black keys on the piano so that the key of D is all on the same side.
